Photosynthesis

Reflection of lesson on Types of food in grade IV

Lesson overview

I uploaded grade VI Science video lesson on “Photosynthesis.” I planned and prepared the video lesson using Camtasia studio. I downloaded video lesson and deleted the voice from the video. I deleted the video which was not relevant. Then I inserted the voice explanation. All in all, the lesson is appropriate and interesting.

Strength of the lesson

I felt the video downloaded is appropriate to those in class VI students as the lesson is explained using animation, where the students can quickly understand.  The voice explanation is ensured to be correctly synced with the animation and audible enough so that the students could feel as if the animations were speaking to them. likewise, simulation is present to explain how photosynthesis occur in plant where it gives the students the vivid images of photosynthesis, so that they can retain idea for longer period of time.

Weakness of the lesson

I could not make the introduction and conclusion of the lesson interesting. This is because I had big challenge to insert and link the short video clips together using Camtasia. On top of that syncing the voice narration was more challenging. I felt the lesson would have been great if I could have made the introduction and conclusion interesting and catchy to the students.

Future commitments

I would try my best capacities to learn to edit and link the video clips through YouTube. In future lesson I ensure the introduction and conclusion are more catchy and interesting to the students.

Types of Food

Reflection of lesson on Types of food in grade IV

Lesson overview

I uploaded grade IV Science video lesson on “Types of Food.” I planned and prepared the video lesson using Camtasia studio. The PowerPoint lesson was prepared first. Followed by the voice explanation was inserted using the Camtasia studio. Overall, to me the lesson was understandable and convincing catering the needs of diverse students as this lesson contains voice, photos and words.

Strength of the lesson

My voice was audible and clear so that the students could hear it properly. I tried to pronounced word correctly and clearly. Pausing were appropriately done so that the students can repeat the words and practiced by themselves after me instantly. On top of that to cater the need of diverse needs of learners, I inserted appropriate photos, words, voice, animations and transition to keep the students motivated and curious throughout the lesson. Besides these, lesson was introduced based on simple question which everyone could answer, “what did you eat in breakfast?” In conclusion, three questions were asked to let the students explore more on what they learnt.

 Weakness of the lesson

I could not insert the videos related to topic which may keep students engrossed in lesson that was because I am using the Camtasia application for the first time. I could not explore much on Camtasia application. Introduction and closure were not much creatively designed because I was haste towards the end since I did not get enough time since I was deputed for border patrolling as a Desuup. Provided if videos were inserted and lesson introduction and closure were creatively designed, it would have been more interesting.

Future commitments

I will insert interesting video lessons related to topics by exploring about the Camtasia through YouTube and seeking help from the friends who know better about the applications. Similarly, the lesson introduction and closure shall be designed creatively by inserting interesting graphics and videos downloaded from YouTube.

Reflection on advantages of using ICT for teaching and learning

We knew that the usage of ICT is important in teaching and learning processes. However, its practical importance and crucial role is felt only during the COVID-19 pandemic when all the schools across the country is shut and the teachers have to teach the students through Google classroom and other social media platforms.  In fact it served the diverse functions in the process of virtual teaching and learning, yet I would like to reflect on the few critical things every one of us must be reminded.

ICT immensely became handy for all the teachers across the country after the closure of the schools due to pandemic. Had there been no ICT as such than the students across the country would be left disengaged. Thereby contributing more towards the social chaos by the students abusing drugs, alcohol, joining gang fights, teenage pregnancy, going against parents, etc. All this if happened, occurred minimal since the students are meaningfully engaged by the teachers using ICT to teach and learn at their homes. Hence the students did not get chance to engage in such nonsensical activities.

In schools, the students are disallowed from owning and using the mobile phones despite knowing the fact that the world is ICT driven. This deprivation caused hiccup to students to cope with the online learning from mobile phones initially for a few weeks, but gradually improved proving that they are the digital natives. Knowing on this well proofed that the mobile phones must be allowed to use by the students in school. So that the students can be well oriented to better learn lessons through mobile phones at any time or in future if similar unprecedented situation may ever arise.

Eventually, both the students and teachers must sharpen their knowledge on ICT since it becomes inevitable to forgo. A good teacher deprived of ICT knowledge will not be effective. A bright student without ICT knowledge will not be smart. Our education system must go paradigm shift from book orientated learning to ICT oriented learning. This would safe unnecessary waste of resources like printing textbooks and issuing notebooks to the students. With pandemic outbreak, I could find maximum students could afford to own a smart phone. A few exceptional cases, the government can issue on returnable bases by saving the budget allotted for printing textbooks and purchasing other stationeries for the teaching and learning purposes in the schools. By doing so would well-groom and strengthen the digital oriented future citizens and move towards achieving the aspiration our Majesty, the King.
